Fitness Classes At Behavioral Health

UPDATE:

There has been a strong link between exercise and mental health. More and more studies show that exercising and exercise programs can improve the effects of mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Exercise decreases sensitivity to the body’s reaction to anxiety.

Exercise helps promote the growth of new neurons in key areas of the brain, including the hippocampus. Some research suggests that this may play a role in relieving symptoms of some psychiatric conditions including depression and anxiety. Increased neurogenesis (the creation of new brain cells) plays a role in calming the brain during times of stress.

The Group Fitness Department at the Health and Wellness Center has begun teaching Group Fitness Classes at the Behavioral Health Unit at Camden Clark Hospital. A variety of classes are being taught weekly such as Tai Chi, Yoga, stretching, cardio and bodyweight strength training. Thank you to Barb Rosenbohm and Chris Poe for starting this program.
