Want to know why we ask you to shower off before using the pool or hot tub?
A thorough shower helps remove perspiration, body oils, cosmetics and other impurities on the body. Sending those substances down the shower drain goes a long way toward reducing the “yuck factor” for everyone who shares the pool. If you get in the water with lotions, makeup, or even excess perspiration, all of that comes off of your body and mixes with the water you’re swimming in. Once those impurities mix with the water it causes the chlorine to activate in destroying it, which creates chloramines. The more impurities there are in the water means the stronger the chloramine smell will be.
Of course, being in a large swimming pool you may not notice the small amounts of chloramine mixed in the water, but it is much more noticeable in the hot tub because it is a smaller body of water. For your safety and comfort, it is always better to shower off and be clean before entering the water. We want you to have clean water to swim in. While we work on keeping the water chemicals balanced properly, we can all work together to keep the water as clean as possible.
