Driven by Purpose, Defined by Impact
Here for the region when lives depend on it
Comprehensive Critical Care Services
At the WVU Critical Care and Trauma Institute, our specialized units – the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU), and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) – serve as the cornerstone of WVU Medicine’s critical care mission.
Established in December 2015, the Institute is a leading provider of specialized care to critically ill and injured patients throughout West Virginia and the Appalachian region.
Level 1 and Level 2 Trauma Care
The WVU Critical Care and Trauma Institute is proud to operate northern West Virginia’s only Level 1 trauma center – the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. It’s among only 100 Level 1 trauma centers in the nation and is the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level 1 (adult) and Level 2 (pediatrics) trauma center in the region.
Night of Recognition
The Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center’s Night of Recognition is an annual event honoring the hard work and dedication of the many professionals who comprise the trauma system – from the scene of the injury through inpatient hospital care to rehabilitation and recovery. The stories of trauma patients are shared and representatives of each stage of their care are presented with a Cornerstone of Recovery Award.
