Nominate a Nurse or a Patient Care Assistant

DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses and the Carnation Award for Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

The DAISY Award program is a nationally recognized award program. Grant Memorial Hospital (GMH) has joined the growing network of healthcare organizations across the country that currently participate in the award program created by the Daisy Foundation. The organization’s mission is to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate care that nurses provide to patients and families every day. GMH has expanded this program to also honor and award Patient Care Assistants (PCA) with a Carnation Award.

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Nurses and Patient Care Assistants may be nominated by patients, families, and co-workers.The Carnation Award for Extraordinary Patient Care Assistants
