Purpose Statement:
The Post Graduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency Program at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center will build upon Residents’ Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Program Overview:
This program is a twelve-month, postgraduate training experience composed of the following elements:
- Inpatient Acute Care
- Practice Management
- Practice-Related Education/Training
The program will vary for each resident based on upon his or her goals and interests. All residents are required to complete learning experiences in core subject areas and will have an opportunity to choose from a variety of elective rotations based on interest. This program is designed to provide educational opportunities in a variety of patient populations to enhance clinical skills and develop a strong foundation in clinical problem solving and therapeutic decision making. High quality, patient centered care is emphasized throughout the program. Residents will also be able to participate in research opportunities, program development and management, and policy making. Collaboration and teamwork are emphasized in all aspects of learning and provision of care, from clinical decision-making during multidisciplinary rounds, to leadership and program management through involvement in various committees within the hospital.
