WALANT: In-office Hand Surgery at WVU Medicine

Outpatient hand surgery to treat conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome or cysts doesn’t necessarily require a hospital visit. There’s a newer way to perform hand surgery – in the doctor’s office with local anesthesia. WVU orthopaedic surgeon Shafic Sraj, MD, explains WALANT, short for “wide awake local anesthesia no tourniquet” surgery.
