“We’re Expecting!” WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital Announces Return of Labor and Delivery Services in Early 2025

Uniontown, PA - The Fayette County community will soon have easy access to labor and delivery services once again thanks to the opening of the WVU Medicine Children’s Birthing Center operated by Uniontown Hospital in 2025.

The new Birthing Center is being funded through the philanthropic gifts of many in the Uniontown and Fayette County communities and will provide labor and delivery services for low-risk births in the community. The hospital closed its original labor and delivery unit back in 2019 before it joined the WVU Medicine health system.

“We know how important these services are to the Fayette County community and have been working hard to bring them back,” president and CEO of WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, Carrie Willetts, said. “Thanks to the generous donations from community members, we have been focused on making the necessary renovations to the facility as well as bolstering our recruitment efforts to make sure we are ready to welcome families in the new year.”

This new center will feature state-of-the-art equipment with five newly renovated labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, 11 postpartum rooms, and a new c-section suite. It also brings new jobs to the community, with the hospital currently focusing on recruiting nurses, operating room techs, and health unit coordinators, among other positions.

“Between community leaders, donors, current hospital employees, and WVU Medicine, the support we’ve received for the new center has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Nancy Decker, chair of WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital's board of directors. “We’re excited to once again provide a safe place for families to deliver their baby without needing to travel outside Fayette County.”

Additional opportunities still exist to support this project, and those wishing to donate can contact the hospital directly at 724-430-5000 or visit wvumedicine.org/uniontown/giving. More information and updates about the Birthing Center can be found at wvumedicine.org/birthingcenter.
