We understand you might have questions about this change. Here are answers to some important, often asked questions.

If I already have an account on the Thomas Hospitals Exchange Patient Portal, will I automatically have a MyWVUChart account?

Will my information move to the new portal?
Please know that your medical records and information will never “go away”. Your care team continues to have full access to this information and records.

Unfortunately, we are not able to transfer all patient information or medical records from the Thomas Health Exchange Patient Portal to MyWVUChart. Information such as medication lists, allergies, problem list, etc. are available to providers and may become viewable via MyWVUChart after you complete an appointment, at which time your provider will verify information from our old system. This helps ensure that the information you view in MyWVUChart is up-to-date and accurate, as well as equip providers to provide the highest level of care.

Access to your medical records will always be available through WVU Medicine’s Enterprise Information Management department. Online access to medical records for services received after April 30, 2024 will be available in MyWVUChart. For a limited time, you will be able to use your Thomas Hospitals Exchange Patient Portal for read-only access to view certain historical records for services received before May 1, 2024. Thomas Hospitals no longer offers Exchange Patient Portal account enrollment.

Will I still be able to use the Thomas Hospitals Exchange Patient Portal?
If you previously used the Thomas Hospitals Exchange Patient Portal, it’s important to know that Patient Portal is no longer available for regular use. You now need a MyWVUChart account to use online health information services at Thomas Hospitals. We know that our transition from the Exchange Patient Portal to MyWVUChart will inadvertently cause an interruption in some information and record availability. We apologize for this and any inconvenience it may cause.

Messaging through Thomas Hospitals Exchange Patient Portal will be turned off on May 1 to allow time to transition to our new Electronic Medical record. Please be careful sending prescription refills and medical questions during the last week in April. We encourage you to make any requests to the office prior to 4/26 if using the portal. This includes refill requests that might be due in late April or early May. Thomas Hospitals will hopefully get to every question and refill during that time but if you feel like you have not received a quick response to one of your requests, please call the office for help.

If you have a current Thomas Hospitals Exchange Patient Portal account, you will be able to log into and view health information, in a read-only mode, for a limited amount of time. You will be able to view your past information, but no updates will be made in that portal. On May 1, prescription refill requests, messaging with your care team, and other important functions must be done in MyWVUChart.

Why can’t I see my information with my new MyWVUChart account?
During the transition from the Exchange Patient Portal to MyWVUChart, you may notice some MyWVUChart functionality isn’t immediately available. Certain functions will “turn on” after you have completed a scheduled appointment or used a service in our new system, after May 1, 2024. Please know that this is a temporary interruption.

If you have questions about information not visible in MyWVUChart or about the accuracy of information displayed, please contact the WVU Medicine Enterprise Information Management (EIM) department at 304-598-4110.
