Garrett Regional Medical Center’s emergency room is open to everyone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with care provided to approximately 20,000 patients annually.

The Emergency Department features a separate waiting room and entrance along with 13 patient care areas that feature advanced cardiac monitoring, trauma care, and diagnostic equipment.

Garrett Regional Medical Center is an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital as designated by the Joint Commission, a regulatory agency that ensures a commitment to quality and adherence to specific performance standards in providing emergent stroke care.

The department is staffed with qualified emergency physicians who are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support. They are supported by a team of surgical and specialty physicians who are on call round-the-clock. Registered nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Garrett Regional Medical Center staff maintains a close working relationship with pre-hospital emergency care providers throughout Garrett and surrounding West Virginia counties. Using Emergency Medical Services (EMS) telecommunications, our emergency room physicians provide medical direction to local ambulance and rescue personnel as needed. A helicopter pad adjacent to the emergency room allows rapid transfer of critically ill or injured patients to Garrett Regional Medical Center or other regional referral centers.
