Substance Use Services

While our Behavior Health Unit is NOT a detoxification facility, we do provide treatment to those patients with a secondary diagnosis of substance abuse. Eligibility for admission is determined after a qualified mental health professional assesses the prospective patient and then consults with the psychiatrist. Once the psychiatrist determines the eligibility of the patient, inpatient behavioral health services (or other services as indicated) are offered.

For those wishing to discontinue consistent use of alcohol or benzodiazepines, it is essential to complete a medically supervised detoxification process.

If an individual does not qualify for inpatient admission but is still in need of substance use services, an EPS Crisis Worker will complete a referral for an appropriate service outside of the hospital.

Warning signs that substance abuse needs to be addressed include:

  • Notable interference with school, employment and/or family roles
  • Neglect of children and/or household tasks
  • Decrease in financial responsibility
  • Emotional instability
  • Neglect of personal hygiene
  • Extreme or uncharacteristic aggression
