Join this interactive workshop to explore how mindfulness can alleviate the psychological and physiological challenges that often arise during the long winter months, fostering a steadier and more compassionate approach to daily life.
Led by neuroscientist Julie Brefczynski-Lewis, clinical therapist Laurel Faulkenberry and yoga teacher Heidi Sherwin participants will be introduced to accessible practices that integrate brain science, emotional regulation, and gentle movement.
What you’ll experience
- Practice grounding techniques to stabilize the nervous system when winter stress or overwhelm arises.
- Explore brief mindfulness exercises that can be incorporated at your desk, at home, or before bed to support sleep and mood.
- Experiment with gentle, mindful movement and breathing to bring warmth, circulation, and ease to a tense, chilled body.
- Reflect on your relationship with winter and reframe the season as a time for intentional rest, inner light, and renewal.
- Identify a few realistic “mindful steps” you can carry into the remainder of the season to strengthen resilience and self-compassion.
This free workshop is open to all members of the WVU community and the WVU Medicine system.
