Common Reasons Why Joints Hurt

Joints hurt due to various reasons, including certain medical conditions. Two primary causes of joint pain are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects cartilage in the joints. Over time, cartilage wear and tear can lead to arthritis pain, stiffness, and swelling in affected joints such as knees and hips. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease causing inflammation in the joints when the immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the joint, resulting in pain, swelling, and stiffness and may affect multiple joints throughout the body.

If your joints hurt, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis for the appropriate joint pain treatment. At the Orthopedics and Spine Center at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, our orthopedic team of bone and joint experts provides comprehensive care for joint pain and related conditions, offering a range of treatment options including medication, minimally invasive procedures and physical therapy.
