WVU Children’s Hospital looking to create 'Mountaineer Moments'
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Fans of West Virginia University’s football team are counting down the days until Sept. 4 when the season officially begins. While throngs of fans fill Mountaineer Field to cheer on the Old Gold and Blue, the staff at WVU Children’s Hospital will be creating "Mountaineer Moments" for the littlest Mountaineers.
WVU Children’s Hospital has kicked off its “Mountaineer Moments” fundraising campaign to provide high-quality healthcare to sick and injured children from all over West Virginia and the surrounding region. These services are provided regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
Some examples of how donations to WVU Children’s Hospital are used include:
• $100 can buy one month’s worth of crayons, which allow children to express their feelings about what they’re going through.
• $250 buys 1,000 diapers. WVU Children’s Hospital goes through more than 230,000 diapers each year.
• $525 provides equipment designed to treat patients who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or irregular breathing or coughing patterns.
• $1,000 provides a warming blanket for a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
“The WVU Athletic Department and student athletes have been creating Mountaineer Moments at WVU Children’s Hospital for more than 20 years. Their visits brighten the days of patients and create lifelong memories,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “We hope that people will consider being a part of the Mountaineer Moments program so we can continue this tradition for many years to come.”
Those who donate at least $525 to the “Mountaineer Moments” program will receive an NCAA Final Four commemorative piece. The piece is framed and includes two photos, a certificate of authenticity and a special plaque celebrating the WVU Men’s Basketball Team’s memorable trip to the 2010 Final Four. Photos are of Coach Huggins and Da’Sean Butler at the Final Four game against Duke University and of the pre-game huddle at the Elite Eight game against the University of Kentucky. Each piece is autographed by Huggins and Butler. This offer is valid through Dec. 31 or while supplies last.
