WVU Department of Medicine is proud to host the annual John E. Parker Pulmonary and Sleep Symposium hosted by the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.

This conference has been designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and members in the healthcare field interested in up-to-date information on inpatient and outpatient pulmonary lung diagnoses and sleep disorders.

Target Audience
Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and members in the healthcare field that are interested in up-to-date information on inpatient and outpatient adult pulmonary lung diagnosis and sleep disorders.

Learning Objectives
By attending the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the WV vaccine initiative
  • Describe recent advances in management of COPD
  • Discuss state of the art in lung cancer screening
  • Describe the best approach to diagnosis and therapy of interstitial lung disease
  • Describe recent guidelines on management of asthma
  • Describe implications of occupational lung diseases affecting West Virginia
  • Describe advances in the management of pulmonary hypertension
  • Discuss approach and management of a unexplained dyspnea
  • Discuss CXR imaging and examine CXR/imaging to decide on referral
  • Discuss the basics of interpretation in pulmonary function testing

Accreditation and Designation
The West Virginia University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The WVU Office of CME designates this live activity for a maximum of up to 5.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The WVU School of Nursing has provided this continuing education activity for up to 6.3 contact hours. Important: If you are unable to attend the conference after you have registered, you must notify us in writing by July 18, 2025, to receive a refund. No refunds for conference fees will be made after July 18, 2025. A $25 fee will be charged for all canceled registrations.

We reserve the right to cancel individual sessions or the entire conference. In the event of a conference cancelation, a full tuition refund will be made.
