The WVU Eye Institute provides comprehensive medical and surgical management for inflammatory eye diseases, like uveitis, that cause swelling, irritation, and impaired vision. We are one of the few centers in the state to offer multidisciplinary specialized care for patients with complex inflammatory eye diseases. WVU Eye Institute providers collaborate with WVU Medicine Rheumatology, Pulmonary, Neurology and Infectious Disease providers to offer the most effective management of complex uveitis cases.

We treat the following common conditions associated with uveitis:

Inflammatory Eye Conditions 

• Eye pain
• Redness
• Blurred vision
• Floaters (dark, floating spots in the field of vision)
• Sensitivity to light

Inflammatory/Autoimmune Diseases

• Ankylosing spondylitis
• Behçet’s Disease
• Juvenile idiopathic arthritis

• Tubulointerstitial nephritis with uveitis

Uveitis Treatments and Services

The WVU Eye Institute provides the most advanced imaging technology and treatment for inflammatory eye diseases. A uveitis-fellowship trained ophthalmologist will perform a series of diagnostic tests, including a comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation. Based on your unique condition, WVU Eye Institute specialists may implement a range of medical and surgical therapies.

FSR Global Sarcoidosis Clinic Alliance

Sarcoidosis is an autoimmune disease that causes granulomas—masses of tiny, swollen cells—to collect in the body’s organs. While the lungs, lymph nodes, and skin are commonly impacted, sarcoidosis can also cause eye problems or inflammatory eye disease such as uveitis. “Sarcoid uveitis” can cause blurred vision, redness, pain, and vision loss.

At the WVU Eye Institute, we collaborate with sub-specialty partners to diagnose, treat, and manage uveitis caused by sarcoidosis. Our multi-disciplinary approach involves skilled providers from a variety of departments, including:
