Nursing Excellence Award Nomination Criteria and Form
Selection of the outstanding licensed nurse, either an RN or LPN, will be based on nominations from peers and colleagues and will adhere to the eligibility and qualifications listed below.
The awards will be presented at the Nursing Excellence Awards Ceremony during National Nurses Week, May 6- 12, 2025.
Eligibility
All full-time or part-time Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses involved in direction patient care, have worked for WVU Medicine East for at least a year, and are an employee in good standing, is eligible to be nominated for this award. Nominees should be non-managerial and provide outstanding patient care and commitment to the Nursing profession. Nominees should demonstrate exemplary performance of the Scope and Standards of Practice as described by the American Nurses Association.
Qualifications
The nurse should model the WVU Standards of Behavior including:
- Compassion – Treating all individuals with empathy and respect
- Communication – Interacting effectively with patients, families and employees
- Commitment – Taking responsibility for actions, decisions, and performance
- Competence – Increasing expertise in order to provide the highest standard of care.
The nurse should exhibit commitment to the profession of Nursing including:
- Continual learning through formal and informal means
- Strengthening clinical skills and building knowledge
- Using evidence-based practice and research in caring for patients
- Sharing knowledge with others through teaching, mentoring and coaching other healthcare professionals.

Nursing Technician/Ambulatory Medical Assistant Excellence Award Criteria and Form
Selection of the outstanding Nursing Technician/Ambulatory Medical Assistant, will be based on nominations from peers and colleagues and will adhere to the eligibility and qualifications listed below. The awards will be presented at the Nursing Excellence Awards Ceremony during National Nurses Week, May 6- 12, 2025.
Eligibility
All full-time or part-time Nursing Technician/Ambulatory Medical Assistant involved in patient care in the hospital or clinical setting, have worked for WVU Medicine East for at least a year, and are an employee in good standing, is eligible to be nominated for this award.
A nominee for this award should be a PCT, ACT, CCT, EDT, OBT, CST, CSIT, or ST.
Qualifications:
