Princeton, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) is proud to recognize emergency department nurse Kayla Phillips, RN, as the latest recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, an international program that honors the compassionate and skillful care nurses provide every day.

Phillips was nominated by a patient who experienced a life-threatening medical emergency earlier this summer. In the nomination, the patient wrote, “The first thing I remember after regaining consciousness were your hands gently rubbing my face and your voice asking me to speak. When I was finally able to respond, I could hear the relief in your voice. It didn’t take long for me to realize you had used your skills to save my life.”

Following the emergency intervention, Phillips remained by the patient’s side, monitoring their condition and explaining what had happened. She then accompanied the patient to the intensive care unit for continued care and returned the next day to check on their progress.

Hospital leadership joined in praising Phillips' exceptional professionalism, calm under pressure, and deep compassion.

“Kayla exemplifies what it means to be a nurse at Princeton Community Hospital,” said PCH president and CEO Karen Bowling. “Her ability to combine clinical excellence with human connection is what transforms care into healing. This DAISY Award is well-deserved.”

The DAISY Award is part of a global program honoring nurses who go above and beyond to provide extraordinary care to patients and their families. Nominations can be submitted by patients, families, and colleagues at bit.ly/PCHEmployeeAwards

Phillips joins a prestigious community of DAISY honorees worldwide and becomes eligible for a variety of professional development and wellness benefits through the DAISY Foundation.
