PCH ER Nurse Recognized with International DAISY Award

PRINCETON, W.Va. – Tracy Jessee, RN, a nurse with WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital’s (PCH) Bluefield Emergency and Ancillary Services, received The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses today. Hospital officials surprised Jessee with the award during a celebration in the Bluefield emergency department.    
 
Jessee is the seventh nurse at PCH to earn this prestigious international award that recognizes nurses for the outstanding, compassionate care they provide to patients every day. Nominations come directly from patients and their families.  
 
Jessee was nominated by a coworker whose father was in the emergency department experiencing heart attack symptoms. The nomination says, “Tracy was his nurse that day and she never left his room. She made sure both of us were comfortable and managed dad’s pain and heart problems quickly and efficiently. I am so glad to not only have Tracy to take care of my family but also to work with her. She is an exceptional nurse.” 
 
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes, who wanted to do something positive to honor their son, and they came up with DAISY – an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

As they discussed what the mission of the DAISY Foundation would be, they kept coming back to the one positive thing they held on to during Pat’s eight-week illness: the extraordinary care and compassion he and the family received from his nurses, day in and day out. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created as a way to recognize nurses and thank them for the care they provide.
