Governor's HB 5105 Veto Protects Our Healthcare Workers, Community
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph recently published this letter from WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital President and CEO Karen Bowling:
On behalf of WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital and our dedicated health care team, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for Governor Jim Justice’s decision to veto HB 5105.
The Governor’s action reinforces his commitment to the wellbeing of West Virginia’s children and all our residents by maintaining robust childhood immunization policies.
Immunizations stand as one of the most significant achievements of modern medicine, effectively eradicating deadly diseases such as polio, measles, and whooping cough that once plagued West Virginia and communities worldwide.
The Governor’s decisive action also extends protections to our vital health care workers, who faithfully serve our communities day in and day out. Reverting to dangerous, scientifically outdated practices would have hampered our ability to serve the people in our community.
West Virginia has established itself as a national leader in school immunization policies. Our state’s proactive approach has protected our children and served as a model for other states grappling with similar challenges. By upholding these policies, Governor Justice both protected public health and set an inspiring example for leaders nationwide.
By vetoing this bill, Governor Justice has demonstrated a dedication to public health and a high quality of life for all West Virginians.
