WVU Medicine Camden Clark Offers 2024 Scholarship Opportunities for College Students Furthering Their Education in Nursing and Healthcare Fields
Parkersburg, WV (April 4, 2024) — WVU Medicine Camden Clark has announced its annual scholarship opportunities made available to local college students pursuing careers in nursing and healthcare related fields. The scholarships will be funded through the Camden Clark Foundation and Hospital Auxiliary.
The Camden Clark Auxiliary will award up to three separate $2,500 Leo D. Carsner Memorial Scholarships, based on meeting scholarship criteria. Area college students obtaining a degree in a healthcare related field are eligible for the scholarship. Leo D. Carsner was the CEO and president of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital from 1963-1989.
“We recognize the critical need to support local students financially throughout their academic journeys while pursuing careers in healthcare,” said WVU Medicine Camden Clark Volunteer and Auxiliary Manager, Marjorie Reed. “Since 1992, the Camden Clark Auxiliary has awarded more than $160,000 in scholarship funding to local students, and we’re honored to continue this tradition.”
Those applying for the Leo D. Carsner Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
· Applications are also available online at camdenclark.org on the Patients & Visitors page in the Volunteer section, or on the Camden Clark Foundation website., or by contacting the Volunteer Services Department at 304-424-2847. Applications must be completed and returned by April 8, 2024
· Students must have completed one year of college at an accredited school or be in the final weeks of their first year carrying at least 12 credit hours.
· To be eligible, students must live in the area serviced by Camden Clark Medical Center, which includes 11 counties in West Virginia and Ohio
· Applicants will be judged on their scholastic ability, leadership attributes, potential contribution to the health care field, and financial need.
· Recipients of the scholarships will be notified via phone or mail.
· The scholarship is paid directly to the school. Funding for the scholarships was made available by a variety of auxiliary projects.
Applicants will be judged on their scholastic ability, leadership attributes, potential contribution to the healthcare field and financial need. The application deadline is April 8, 2024, with the scholarships to be presented at the Camden Clark Volunteer Luncheon on April 25. All funds awarded will be paid directly to the college or university of the chosen recipients.
Scholarship funding is made available through several Camden Clark Auxiliary projects.

The Camden Clark Foundation (on behalf of the Camden Clark Nursing Alumnae) will award two $2,000 scholarships, in memory of Miss Ella Bloomheart, former Director of Nursing, and Barbara Fonte, a grateful patient, to college students who have completed their first year at an accredited school of nursing or currently employed RNs furthering their education.
“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to provide financial assistance to local nursing students or Camden Clark employees continuing their education,” said WVU Medicine Camden Clark Foundation Executive Director, Kim Couch. “I’m so proud to continue working with our Camden Clark Nursing Alumnae and grateful for their generosity and continued support of the next generation of nurses.”
Those applying for the Camden Clark Foundation Nursing Alumnae Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
· Provide written documentation of acceptance to a Registered Nurse program accredited by the National League of Nursing (NLN) or CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education).
· Live in the area served by WVU Medicine Camden Clark, which includes 11 counties in West Virginia and Ohio.
· Have completed one year of college at an accredited school as a nursing student or be in the final weeks of their first year carrying at least 12 credit hours OR a currently employed RN furthering their education.
· The scholarship must be used within the next academic year.
All scholarship funds awarded must be used within the next academic year. The application deadline is April 26, 2024, with the scholarships to be awarded at the Camden Clark Nursing Alumnae Luncheon on May 9.
