WVU Heart and Vascular Institute opens new clinic at WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Leaders from WVU Medicine East and the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) cut the ribbon on a new cardiovascular clinic on Tuesday (Nov. 19) at WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center.
The WVU Heart and Vascular Institute first opened a clinic in the Eastern Panhandle in 2017 at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center, marking the expansion of cardiovascular and thoracic services in the eastern region.
Since then, it has expanded to include clinics in Ranson, and Winchester, Virginia. In addition to eight cardiologists, the Heart and Vascular team in the Eastern Panhandle has expanded in recent years to include both vascular and thoracic surgeons.
According to Mark O’Hern, president and CEO of WVU Medicine East, a larger clinic in Jefferson Couty was necessary to accommodate the rapid growth of HVI services in the region.
“Over the past several years, WVU Medicine has dedicated a great deal of resources to improving access to cardiac care and expanding services in the eastern region,” O’Hern said.
“In 2023, we opened a new, expanded WVU Heart and Vascular Institute clinic in Martinsburg to accommodate that growth and provide adequate clinic space for our patients. Now, we are excited to turn our attention toward Jefferson Medical Center and ensure patients in Jefferson County have the same easy access to world-class cardiovascular care.”
The new WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Jefferson Medical Center will replace the existing clinic at 201 E. 5th Ave. in Ranson and will include five exam rooms, an echocardiogram room, office space for providers, a dedicated patient registration and waiting area, and all the required ancillary and support spaces.
“The expansion and continued investment in cardiovascular and thoracic services of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute across our state and region fulfills our commitment to keep patients close to home whenever possible,” Vinay Badhwar, M.D., executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, said.
“Through the superb collaboration with the staff and physicians of Jefferson Medical Center and the close partnership of Mr. O’Hern, this is just one more step closer to our mission to provide a full spectrum of services to the patients of the Eastern Panhandle, western Virginia, and Maryland. As we move to enhance delivery of a wide spectrum of cardiology services and move to do the same with vascular and thoracic surgery, we very much look forward to providing the highest quality of care you have come to expect from the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute to patients of Jefferson, Loudoun, and Fredrick counties.”
The clinic is located at 300 S Preston St. in Ranson and opened to patients on Monday. For more information about the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, visit WVUMedicine.org/Heart.
