The Howard Long Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art exercise facility with 65,000-square-feet of dynamic, lifelong health supporting services.
At the Howard Long Wellness Center you’ll find:
- A full-service cardiovascular center with a variety of bikes, treadmills, elliptical trainers, rowers, Arc Trainers and Stairmasters.
- Variable resistance strength equipment and free weights to build power, tone and endurance.
- Diabetes Wellness Program to help support those living with diabetes through exercise, education, and nutrition services.
- A 9-lap, three lane indoor walking/running track, plus a full basketball court with schedule time available for Pickleball matches—making “movement” possible for everyone.
- A beautiful aquatic center with indoor pool, Jacuzzi and daily water-fitness classes for both novices and seasoned swimmers.
- More than 70 group exercise classes per week: from Zumba, Boot Camp, Body Burn and Spinning, to Yoga, Tai Chi and water-HIIT.
- Added services including child care, personal training, massage therapy, registered dietitian support, pro-shop and health-screening events.
Cardio Rehab & Diabetes Wellness Programs
Two of the most distinguishing features of our center are the Cardio Rehab and Diabetes Wellness Programs.
Our Cardio Rehab team offers:
- Supervised exercise training with telemetry monitoring and expert care from nurses, exercise physiologists, dietitians and diabetic educators.
- Risk-factor education and lifestyle support to help you rebuild strength, reduce symptoms and restore your health after a heart event.
- A program first started in 1978 and located here at Howard Long since 1994 – the second oldest cardiac rehab program in West Virginia.
- Integration with our wellness campus so you can move seamlessly from rehab to fitness, from therapy to personal empowerment.
Additionally, managing diabetes is a daily commitment, and having the right support can make all the difference. Our Diabetes Wellness Program helps members build healthier routines through guided education, personalized activity plans, and ongoing encouragement from trained professionals. Proper diabetes management can improve energy, prevent complications, and support long-term well-being, especially when paired with expert guidance. Aquatic exercise offers a uniquely effective way to build strength, improve mobility, and protect your joints—all at the same time. The natural buoyancy of water reduces impact on the body, easing stress on hips, knees, and the spine, while gentle resistance engages muscles more evenly than many land-based workouts. Whether you’re managing joint pain, recovering from injury, or simply looking for a low-impact way to stay active, water-based exercise provides a supportive, confidence-building environment for all fitness levels.
At the Howard Long Wellness Center Aquatic Center, members enjoy access to an Olympic-sized pool that is filtered and temperature-regulated year-round for cleanliness, comfort, and consistency. Our aquatic schedule includes a variety of instructor-led group classes designed to meet different fitness goals and experience levels, along with dedicated family swim times that encourage shared movement, fun, and connection. Together, these offerings create a welcoming aquatic environment where individuals and families alike can move, strengthen, and thrive.

Pool Group Classes
Water Aerobics
This 60 minute class incorporates overall conditioning and cardiovascular fitness, as well as muscular endurance. In this fun and challenging workout you may use a variety of aquatic equipment including paddles, weights, kickboards, or noodles.
Latin Z Aquatics
This class is all about fun, as one the hottest group workout trends makes its way to the pool! This cardio workout tones, sculpts, and burns calories to Latin and international music themes. This is a great group workout for all fitness levels, and no dance experience in required.
Aqua Fitness
This class blends water-based cardio with light resistance training to deliver a full-body workout that’s effective, efficient, and easy on the joints. Using the natural resistance of water and simple aquatic weights, this class builds strength and endurance while supporting safe, sustainable movement.
H.I.I.T. the Pool
This 45-minute aquatic HIIT class delivers high-intensity intervals using the resistance of water to drive heart rate, build power, and improve endurance—while remaining lower impact than traditional HIIT workouts on land.
Instructor’s Choice
Instructor Choice is an ever-changing 45 minute class that offers a dynamic aquatic workout shaped by the instructor’s expertise, allowing each class to adapt focus, pacing, and movement for a fresh and engaging experience.

Functional Fitness

Functional Fitness training focuses on everyday movement — A more intense, innovative, and challenging class that offers Olympic lifts and whole body exercises aimed at improving balance, coordination, and strength. Great for athletes, active adults, and older adults alike, these sessions help prevent injuries and keep you strong for daily life.

Yoga and Tai Chi
Restore balance — mind and body.
Find your calm with our restorative yoga and Tai Chi offerings. Led by experienced, expert instructors, these classes emphasize breathwork, posture, mindfulness, and flexibility. Perfect for stress relief, recovery, or low-impact conditioning. Whether you’re new to yoga, or are an experienced practitioner, we have a variety of classes to best suite your needs.
Child Care Center
Wellness for the whole family.
Our on-site Child Care Center makes it easy for parents to stay active while their little ones enjoy a fun, safe, and supervised environment. We welcome children from 6 months to 12 years old, and provide engaging activities while you focus on your workout. Massage & Hydro Massage Therapy

Our professional massage and hydro massage services are designed to relieve tension, reduce pain, and promote recovery. Choose from Deep-Tissue, Trigger Point, or Swedish Massage Therapy — each one tailored to help you unwind and enhance your physical and mental well-being. We also offer a state-of-the-art Hydromassage room featuring the HydroMassage Lounge chairs, available to members every day for only $10/month.
