Wheeling Hospital’s endocrinologists specialize in the treatment of hormone-related conditions that affect the endocrine system. A wide range of medical conditions are caused by endocrine hormone imbalances. Diabetes is the most common endocrine disease in the United States, and Wheeling Hospital offer comprehensive services and patient education to effectively manage this chronic disease.

Our endocrinologists treat all diseases and disorders of the endocrine system, including diabetes; PCOS; disorders of adrenal, pituitary; obesity; thyroid disorders including thyroid cancer; osteoporosis and calcium disorders. We will assist you with all forms of treatment and management of diabetes, including:

  • Glucose monitoring, including continuous glucose sensors
  • Insulin replacement therapy, including insulin pump therapy V-go patch therapy
  • Meal planning
  • Oral medications
  • Prevention of medication interactions and errors

Located at Howard Long Wellness Center, the WVU Medicine Diabetes Education Center has a dedicated staff of registered nurses, certified diabetes educators, and dietitians who offer services for people with diabetes or who are at risk for developing diabetes. Classes and other ongoing services include diabetes education classes (group and individual), medical nutrition therapy, and gestational diabetes instruction.

Talk with your primary care provider (or the provider who is managing your diabetes) about a referral to the Diabetes Education Program for a consultation or to attend our classes. Your provider will need to complete this referral form, and we will let you know the class schedule after your form has been received.

Our diabetes classes cover a wide range of topics that impact people who are at high risk for diabetes or currently living with the disease. The goal of diabetes education is to teach people and their families how to make healthy choices while living with this long-term condition and prevent any complications whenever possible. People with diabetes (both type 1 and type 2) are at higher risk for serious problems from certain vaccine-preventable diseases. Talk with your provider about keeping up-to-date with vaccinations and any other necessary screenings as recommended.
