Association recognizes facility’s commitment to patient care
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Urgent Care has become the first and only urgent care facility in West Virginia to be designated as a Certified Urgent Care by the Urgent Care Association of America.WVU Urgent Care provides patients with walk-in, extended-hour medical attention from licensed providers for a large scope of medical conditions and has met all of the Urgent Care Association of America’s established criteria.
Since it opened in September 2007, WVU Urgent Care has seen more than 85,000 patients and is a convenient option for medical conditions that cannot wait for a scheduled appointment with a primary care physician.
With its certification, WVU Urgent Care and the Urgent Care Association of America demonstrate their commitment toward providing patients with access to appropriate levels of care.
“This designation is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our providers and staff. We are continually committed to providing our patients with convenient, quality care and will proudly do so under the banner of the UCAOA,” Carmen Burrell, D.O., WVU Urgent Care medical director, said.
In addition to the designation, clinic manager Julie Govic was recently awarded clinic manager certification after completing the Urgent Care Association’s advanced coursework.
With more than 8,000 urgent care centers in the country, the Urgent Care Association of America established the Certified Urgent Care recognition system to help consumers identify urgent care facilities whose operating model is consistent with standard expectations for urgent care. Urgent care fills the gap between primary care and hospital emergency rooms, offering increased convenience and cost savings.
Located on Van Voorhis Road between Applebee’s and the United Bank Center in Morgantown, WVU Urgent Care provides a complete range of medical treatment for minor illness and injury. Typical complaints seen at WVU Urgent Care include fever, diarrhea, cough/cold, urinary tract infections, sore throat, minor fractures or dislocations, rabies or stomach flu. WVU Urgent Care accepts unscheduled, walk-in patients from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, except Thanksgiving and Christmas, and has a physician on-site at all times.
WVU Urgent Care will be recognized for this honor in the January edition of the “Journal of Urgent Care Medicine.” WVU Urgent Care will also be listed as certified the UCAOA’s website www.ucaoa.org and www.urgentcarecenter.org.
