United Transitional Care Center receives flawless 2016 survey

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHR) and the Office of Facilities Licensure and Certification recently conducted their annual quality indicator and state licensure health survey at United Hospital Center’s United Transitional Care Center (UTCC), located on the fifth floor.

All Medicare and/or Medicaid participating nursing homes must be certified as meeting certain federal requirements. This certification is achieved through routine facility surveys, which the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) contracts with states to perform. For 2016, United Transitional Care Center received a deficiency-free survey.

“Every one of our staff has worked very hard, including the departments within the hospital that have supported us during the survey period,” said Rodney Hannah, NHA, administrator for UTCC. “We take great pride in our work and celebrate having a deficiency-free survey.”

Certified nursing homes must meet more than 180 regulatory standards designed to protect residents. Inspectors also review the residents' clinical records, interview some residents and family members, and interview caregivers and administrative staff.

“Only 10 percent of all nursing homes in the country are pronounced deficiency free,” said Linda Carte, RN, MSN, AOCN, vice president of post-acute care and oncology. “Every day UTCC continues to work hard, day in and day out, to make sure they are providing the best care possible.”
