Lee Ann Romeo, RNC, childbirth educator, lactation counselor at United Hospital Center (UHC), has been honored for her tireless work concerning UHC’s breastfeeding education program during World Breastfeeding Week 2016.
Helping Appalachian Parents and Infants (HAPI) awarded Romeo with a plaque on Aug. 4 at a ceremony in the VA Park. HAPI is a project created six years ago by West Virginia Healthy Start.
“HAPI gives current and future mothers a support group to talk to and have by their side as they go through pregnancy and motherhood,” said Jodi McQuillan, community coordinator for the HAPI project. “The group meets two times a month and discusses any questions or problems they may encounter.”
The award was given to Romeo to show appreciation for her hard work and commitment to helping mothers and infants in the community.
“This award shows me that I am making a difference in the region, regarding the lives of mothers and their babies,” Romeo said. “Women should have the opportunity to receive help on the road to motherhood, and I’m blessed to be able to give that to them.”
