WVU School of Dentistry welcomes three new faculty members

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University School of Dentistry has welcomed three new faculty members – Matthew Bryington, D.M.D., Ashley Neuman, D.D.S., and Basel Danan, D.D.S. – to its ranks.

Matthew-Bryington.jpgDr. Bryington is an assistant professor in the WVU Department of Restorative Dentistry and assistant director of the prosthodontics residency program. Originally from Tampa, Fla., he received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University and his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed post-graduate training at the University of North Carolina and Malmo University in Sweden. Prior to joining the faculty at WVU, Bryington was on the faculty at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. During his teaching career, he received multiple awards and recognitions, including being named a John J. Sharry Research Award finalist, winning an Academy of Osseointegration research grant and being named an International Team for Implantology scholar.

Ashley-Neuman.jpgDr. Neuman is an assistant professor in the WVU Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial pathology. A native of Indiana, she completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Evansville and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Indiana University. She completed post-graduate training in oral pathology at the University of Florida. Neuman is also a researcher and has given presentation in various states across the country. Her areas of interest include bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis and squamous cell carcinoma. Within the last two years, she has presented programs in both Puerto Rico and Minnesota on these subjects.

Dr. Danan is an assistant professor in the WVU Department of Periodontics. He has traveled the greatest distance in recent years to become a Mountaineer. He was born in Kuwait and has lived in Syria, Ireland, England, Texas, Louisiana, California and Ohio, before arriving in West Virginia. Danan holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Damascus University and completed post-graduate training at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, Case Western Reserve University and Queens University of Belfast, Ireland. His special interests include implants and treatment of localized aggressive periodontitis.
