BUCKHANNON, W.VA. – WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital celebrated the importance of its physicians on National Doctor’s Day, observed annually on March 30.
First acknowledged in Winder, Georgia, on March 30, 1933, by Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, the day was marked by mailing greeting cards to living doctors and placing flower on the graves of those who were deceased.
In 1958, a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day was adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives, and, in 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national Doctors’ Day. Following overwhelming approval by the House and Senate, then-President George Bush signed the resolution designating March 30 as National Doctors’ Day.
The Board of Trustees, administration, and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital thank all the physicians who dedicate their lives to improving the health and well-being of our community.
