WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital hosts Unity Center Shoe Drive drop off box

GLEN DALE, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital is hosting a drop off box in the main lobby for the Unity Center Shoe Drive. Gently worn, used, or new shoes can be donated now through August 14.

This annual shoe drive helps support The Unity Center’s many programs and resources for people struggling with any form of addiction. The goal this year is to collect 200 bags of 25 shoes.

The shoes collected by The Unity Center are repurposed to help create job opportunities and commerce in other nations through micro-enterprise vendors. These small businesses are usually run by one person or family who sells the shoes for a profit.

The Ohio Valley Recovery Inc. Unity Center, located in Benwood, was founded in 2005 to address the addiction crisis facing the community. The Unity Center provides a place where people seeking addiction recovery can go for support and resources. It currently holds 23 support meetings and helps more than 400 people a week.
