Proper Water Consumption

Did you know the human body is composed of around 70 percent water which is essential to keep your body working at optimal levels? When you sweat, you lose some of that water content. This is why keeping hydrated with water is a vital task while walking or exercising in general.

Water is the main component of blood and the main source of transportation of oxygen and nutrients to all our organs. Water also keeps body temperature regulated which is essential while exercising. In addition to these functions, water also protects our joints. Having proper water consumption could ease some pain one may experience in their joints after their walk.

A common hydration routine is as follows:

  • One to two hours before your workout, drink 15 to 20 ounces of water
  • 15 minutes before you begin, drink between 8 and 10 ounces of water
  • During your workout, drink another 8 ounces every 15-20 minutes
  • If you get thirsty at any time during your walk, drink water

Water Storage Options:

Disposable plastic water bottles are inexpensive and you can buy these in bulk so you will have enough water to last you a few weeks of walking. Once the water is gone please recycle.

Reusable plastic water bottles are a better option for the environment. Not only do these bottles hold more water than a disposable bottle, but you can also reuse them which in the end saves money.

Stainless steel bottles are the safest option and are easy to clean. These bottles are durable and usually include a carabineer loop for easy attachment to clothing. Stainless steel water bottles also do not alter the taste of their contents.
