BUCKHANNON, W.VA. – WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital hosted Buckhannon-Upshur High School juniors and seniors for an exploration of healthcare careers.

Students visited several areas, including the laboratory, imaging, pulmonary, dietetics, security, physical therapy, and human resources departments.

They also toured an operating room, received hands-on demonstrations, including how surgical instruments and equipment are sterilized, and had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss jobs with staff.

“Exploring Healthcare Careers Day was an opportunity to allow students to explore healthcare professions they may not have known existed in a hospital or clinic setting,” Angela Heavner, senior physician and staff recruiter, said. “These are careers available here in Upshur County. We look forward to continuing this program with Upshur County students.”
