One session remains, recordings available for SMART Resilience and Healing Program

Times have been difficult, and as we enter this Spring of recovery the Mindfulness Team welcomes you to join its new SMART Resilience and Healing program. Participants will learn empowering practices to create more balance, increase emotional intelligence, and tap into inner resources to heal the body and mind.

This free 8-week virtual program is open to all students, faculty, and staff at WVU and employees of WVU Medicine. The first 10 minutes of each session will serve as “Lunch and Learn” followed by experiential mindfulness exercises. All sessions will be recorded and available to those unable to attend at noon.

Contact wellness specialist Anthony Danko to register or receive the weekly mindfulness recordings.

Dates: May 3, 10, 17, 24 & June 7, 14, 21, 28

Time: Mondays, noon-12:30 p.m. (Zoom)

Weeks 1-2
Equanimity
: Mindfulness, yoga, and breathing tools to create a firm
foundation of calm stability as well as an awareness of the self-care needs of
one’s body and mind.

Weeks 3-4
Loving-kindness
: Tools to generate openness and the wish for one’s own
and other’s happiness. Loving-kindness creates a state that activates pro-social
brain regions which not only feels good but can be an antidote to depression/
anxiety.

Weeks 5-6
Compassion
: Caring for others is rewarding but can cause burnout. Here
we will learn tools for safely extending compassion and care to others who are
suffering, from a position of awareness and stability.

Weeks 7-8
Joy
: Techniques to enrich one’s happiness and joy, and then integrating and balancing with the practices of the previous weeks. Tapping into joy can be a powerful aid in healing and recovery from physical illness and stress.
