ANESTHESIOLOGY

Michael Lyew, MD, joins the pediatric cardiology division in the Department of Anesthesiology in Morgantown. He was an associate professor of pediatric anesthesiology at New York Medical College with an appointment at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, New York.                    

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY

Kaleena Chilcote, MD, joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in Morgantown. She was a former assistant professor of psychiatry at UPMC and was medical director of psycho-oncology at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. She will also work in the WVU Medicine Cancer Institute.

Andrea Doyle, LCSW, PhD, joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry’s social work division in Morgantown. She was a recent assistant professor of social work at the University of Pennsylvania.

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Percival Buenaventura, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute’s Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in Morgantown. He was director of thoracic surgery at Wellspan in York, Pennsylvania and a former chair of surgery at UPMC Passavant.

Geoffrey Cousins, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute’s Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was formerly a cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

Sulaiman Hasan, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was most recently a part-time thoracic surgeon there. Dr. Hasan was the head of cardiothoracic services, anesthesiology, and critical care at Tabba Heart Institute in Karachi, Pakistan.

Mark Sullivan, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Berkeley Medical Center. He was most recently a thoracic surgeon at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

MEDICINE

John Guido, MD, joins the hospitalist service in the Department of Medicine in Morgantown. Dr. Guido was formerly with MedOne Hospital Physicians at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He earned his medical degree and undergraduate degree at WVU.

Amit Ladani, MD, joins the Department of Medicine’s division of rheumatology in Morgantown. He was formerly a rheumatologist at Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Devan Makati, MD, joins the hospitalist service in the Department of Medicine in Morgantown. He completed an internal medicine residency at WVU School of Medicine.

OPHTHALMOLOGY

L. Carol Laxson, MD, PhD, joins the Department of Ophthalmology in Morgantown. She was formerly a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at Ohio State University, where she completed all of her medical training.

PATHOLOGY

Andrew Thompson, MD, joins the Department of Pathology in Morgantown. He completed residency and two pathology fellowships at UCLA. He will practice dermatopathology and comes to WVU from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

PEDIATRICS

Stephen Akers, MD, PhD, is now a faculty physician in the Department of Pediatrics in Morgantown. He completed a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship, internal medicine and pediatrics residency and earned his MD/PhD all at WVU.  

RADIOLOGY

Heba Almutairi, MD, joins the Department of Radiology in Morgantown. She was a radiologist in Saudi Arabia, and trained at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts, and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

SURGERY

Jack Gelman, MD, joins the Department of Surgery’s plastic and reconstructive surgery division in Morgantown. Dr. Gelman is formerly of Orthopaedic Specialists of Northwest Indiana in Munster, Indiana, and he is a hand surgery specialist.
