MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – February is American Heart Month and National Women’s Heart Health Month. WVU Medicine University Healthcare and the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Eastern Division will sponsor a community mini-medical school program titled Windows to the Heart: 21st Century Cardiovascular Imaging.
The seminar will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the auditorium of the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center on the Berkeley Medical Center campus. This lecture will include a discussion on imaging modalities for diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and focus on advances made in the specialty since the turn of the century.
James Mills, M.D., with the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute in Morgantown, will be the guest speaker. Dr. Mills will share how advances in cardiovascular imaging relate to more rapid diagnosis and treatment and improvement in longevity.
Registration for the mini-medical school program and the Eastern Pylons History of Medicine lecture begins at 6:15 p.m. This month’s Pylosn lecture, Discovery of Blood Pressure, will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring George Harris, M.D., a board-certified sports/family medicine physician with University Healthcare Physicians. The mini-medical school program will follow at 7 p.m.
The mini-medical school program is being offered free to the public as a community service of WVU Medicine University Healthcare and the WVU Health Sciences Center Eastern Division. The Pylons lecture series has been made possible in part by a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
