We believe that spirituality is important for your health and well-being. Research has shown a clear connection between spirituality and the healing process. WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center have a pool of volunteer clergy who serve their respective hospitals on a rotating on-call basis.
When to Contact a Chaplain
- When you would like someone to pray or talk with you.
- When you would like to talk about your illness and what it means to your life.
- When you need strengthening in your spiritual life.
- When you would like to talk about your relationship with God.
- When you have an important decision to make about your life.
- When you are in a time of crisis.
- When you need a sacrament of baptism, anointing, communion, etc.
How to Reach a Chaplain
A member of our Volunteer Chaplaincy Program is available on-call to you or your family 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If you would like a Chaplain to visit you, please notify the Hospital Switchboard Operator at your respective hospital to make this request. One of the Nursing Staff may call for you or your family, if preferred.
If you would like your own pastor or priest to visit you, please let your nurse know.
A non-denominational chapel is located on the First Floor of each hospital for persons desiring a quiet place of prayer or meditation.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, and the restriction of hospital general visiting hours, chaplain visits are limited to end-of-life emergencies only. We thank you for your understanding.
