Berkeley Medical Center: New Patient Tower & Enhanced Campus Infrastructure

WVU Medicine is making a transformational investment in the future of care at Berkeley Medical Center with the construction of a new patient tower, expanding inpatient bed capacity from 190 to 316 and eliminating all semi-private rooms.


Total investment: $200.9 million

Project Highlights:

  • Increase inpatient capacity from 190 to 316 beds, eliminating all semi-private rooms
  • Replace LINAC (linear accelerator) in radiation oncology center
  • Redesigned flow in Emergency Department to include a separate pediatric ED entry and waiting room
  • Up to 450 additional parking spaces accessible by parking bridge and shuttle service

Construction will begin in August 2025 with parking infrastructure, followed by a November groundbreaking for the tower. The new patient tower is expected to open in early 2028.

Jefferson Medical Center: Ambulatory Expansion & Cancer Care Upgrades

At Jefferson Medical Center, WVU Medicine is expanding its ambulatory campus to bring more services together in one location, making care more convenient and comprehensive for patients.


Total investment: $60 million

Project Highlights:

  • Phase 1 of a multi-step master facility plan for the JMC Campus
  • Three-story building with medical office space, comprehensive imaging, lab and ancillary services with shelled space for future growth
  • Dedicated Oncology & Infusion Center on the hospital’s third floor, part of the WVU Cancer Institute
  • Infrastructure modernization
  • Enhanced parking and campus access
  • This project replaces the previously announced $37 million Blue Ridge Crossing building offering a more convenient one-stop experience for patients while allowing for expanded services and greater long-term flexibility

Construction on the new cancer care suite begins summer 2025, with a projected opening in early 2026. The medical office building will break ground in Q2 2026 and open in early 2028.
