MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four dental students in the West Virginia University School of Dentistry received awards for their research at the Dr. Clarence C. and Maxine Davis Cottrill Endowed Lecture: Restoration of the Worn Dentition, which was held on Saturday, April 27, at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
Kathleen Poole from Charleston and Jonathan Hill from Hurricane won first place for their project titled “Evaluation of WIC Participants’ Knowledge of Infant’s and Children’s Oral Health in Boone, Kanawha and Putnam, West Virginia Counties.”
For winning, they received $300 and a certificate from an endowment fund developed and funded by the Dr. James Caveney family. In addition, Poole received an all-expenses paid trip by Dentsply to the American Dental Association/Dentsply conference, which will be held in November in New Orleans.
DoBin Choi from South Korea received $200 from the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association for her second-place research project titled “Comparison Study of Efficacy of Orthodontic Sealants in Prevention of Enamel Demineralization.”
Third place winner, Luke Winter from Berryville, Va., received $150 for his research project titled “The Long Term Effect of Mandibular Symphyseal Distraction Osteogenesis (MSDO) on Transverse Maxillary Dental Stability in Patients with Rapid Maxillary Expansion (RME).”
