The Special Care Unit (SCU) at Jefferson Medical Center is for patients who require more focused nursing care while recovering from a major surgery, injury or critical illness.
Every patient in the SCU has a physician in charge of their care. This may be a hospitalist, surgeon, or primary care physician who has privileges to care for patients in the SCU. The nurses who work in the SCU are highly trained Registered Nurses (RNs) who spend a great deal of their time at the bedside with their patients and work with the physicians to make special care plans for each patient.
