Virtual Mindful Steps: Part 1 series scheduled to begin Sept. 12, 2024
Dates: September 12 – October 17
Times: Thursdays, noon to 1 p.m.

Led by a team of expert instructors, this free 6-week series is designed to assist in developing and maintaining mindful resilience, mental fitness, and relaxation. Participants are invited to attend up to six one-hour sessions that offer a variety of simple yet practical tools to be mindful in daily living.

Living Well Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a six-session interactive workshop designed to help individuals coping with one or more chronic diseases learn to take day-to-day responsibility for their care, increase the skills necessary to manage their disease and work effectively with their health care professional.
This chronic disease self-management program begins April 11 and will be held each Thursday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm through May 16.
Living Well was developed by the Patient Education Research Center at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Leaders have been trained in the curriculum and follow Stanford’s guidelines which have been medically approved and rigorously tested to ensure effectiveness.
Participants of Living Well have reported significant changes in health such as less fatigue, less disability, improved functioning and fewer hospital stays. Participants have also shown improvements in exercise adherence, pain and stress management, communication with physicians and more confidence in their ability to manage their conditions.
Living Well is free and open to those with dealing with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, depression, chronic pain… Everyone can benefit from learning the skills to coordinate all the activities needed to manage their health, as well as help them maintain a full and active life. Caregivers are also encouraged to attend.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center are offering a program for those dealing with chronic pain. It is being offered virtually to allow participants access to the program from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Living Well, a chronic pain self-management program, is a weekly workshop designed to help individuals coping with one or more chronic pain learn to take day-to-day responsibility for their care, increase the skills necessary to manage their pain and work effectively with their health care professional.
A new Zoom workshop begins Feb. 21 and meets every Wednesday through March 28 from 1 until 3:30 p.m. The six-week program will be interactive, informative, and fun offering the same content as the face-to-face workshop.

WVU Medicine, Quality Insights offer virtual diabetes self-management program starts February 5, 2024

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center are partnering with Quality Insights to offer a new virtual diabetes self-management program.
The six-week program was developed at Stanford University and offers the tools and skills necessary to successfully manage diabetes or pre-diabetes. Anyone living with or caring for someone with diabetes is also encouraged to register for the program.
Skills covered include healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, meal planning, reading food labels and how to work with your healthcare provider. “The purpose of this program is to help people with diabetes feel better, do the things they want to do, and take control of their health,” Dana DeJarnett, WVU Medicine promotion coordinator, said.
The diabetes self-management program will be offered virtually via Zoom each Monday, Feb.5 through March 18, from 1 until 3:30 p.m. There is no fee to participate, but registration is required.

WVU Medicine offers a program for those dealing with chronic conditions, Living Well Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. We are looking for individuals to help lead these workshops. A FREE Leader Training is being offered.
Living Well, a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, is a 6-session health workshop to help individuals coping with chronic disease learn to take day-to-day responsibility for their care, increase the skills necessary to manage their disease and work effectively with their health care providers. In addition, participants learn problem-solving and decision-making skills which enable them to confront the ever-changing challenges of living with a chronic illness.
Living Well was developed by the Patient Education Research Center at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Leaders are trained in the curriculum and follow the Self-Management Resource Center’s guidelines which have been medically approved and rigorously tested to ensure effectiveness.
Participants of Living Well have reported significant changes in health such as less fatigue, less disability, improved functioning and fewer hospital stays. Participants have also shown improvements in exercise adherence, pain and stress management, communication with physicians and more confidence in their ability to manage their conditions.
Living Well is FREE and open to those with a chronic condition such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety… Everyone can benefit from learning the skills to coordinate all the activities needed to manage their health, as well as help them maintain a full and active life.
The goal of becoming a Workshop Leader is to help others learn the skills needed to manage their chronic conditions and enhance their quality of life. You do not need previous teaching or healthcare experience to be a leader, just a willingness to help others improve their health. Ideally Leaders have experience dealing with a chronic condition, but it is not a requirement.
Leader expectations and experience:
- Leader training participants will receive a leader manual and book.
- Objectives of training include understanding the components of the program, learning the teaching techniques, and building the skills necessary to teach the class.
- Once Leaders are trained, they will be asked to lead at least 1 workshop a year and maintain the integrity of the program.
- You must attend all sessions of the training to be certified.
The Leader Training will be offered via zoom and is 7 weeks. The first week, there is one meeting and then there are 2 meetings a week for the next 6 weeks. Sessions will be January 18 – February 29, 2024, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30pm – 4:00pm.
