Program description

The Radiography program at WVU Hospitals is a two year (22-month) certificate program offering comprehensive clinical and didactic education in Radiologic Technology. Successful completion qualifies graduates as eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam in Radiography, pending ARRT review and approval. In addition, the program fulfills the educational requirements for all U.S. states requiring state licensure or certification (see Professional Certification and Licensure Disclosure under Program Documents.)

Associate’s degree option

WVU Hospitals has an agreement with Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont ,West Virginia, that offers an Associate’s degree option for those candidates that do not have a degree upon entering WVU Hospitals’ Radiography program. The Radiology Department at WVUH utilizes the latest in imaging technology to provide a wide variety of diagnostic capabilities. Image acquisition is 100 percent digital and uses CareStream DRX-1™ DR systems, Canon RADREX™ DR systems,  and a FUJIFILM™ Picture Archiving and Communication system for image display and archiving. The main facility is located within J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, with satellite imaging units located in the adjacent Physician’s Office Center and the WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.  Additional clinical sites include the University Towne Centre outpatient clinic and the Fairmont Gateway clinic. Imaging equipment consist of 12 general radiographic units, 4 digital R/F units, 12 mobile units, 12 fluoroscopic C-arms, 6 Canon CT scanners , and 5 neuro, vascular, and interventional suites.

Tuition and fees

Tuition is $1,500 per semester ($6,000 for the 22-month program.) Additional costs include books, uniforms, graduation fees, certification exam fees, and conference registration and travel expense (See Cost of Attendance document for estimated costs.) Students are informed of required textbook and uniform purchases upon admission to the program. Upon acceptance into the program, students are assessed a non-refundable $50 admission fee. All tuition and fees are subject to change without notice. Students participating in the Associate’s degree option will be assessed tuition and fees based on Pierpont Community and Technical College’s current fee structure.  See Cost of Attendance (estimated) listed under ” Selected Documents & Policies”  

Financial aid

The Radiography program is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in federal student financial assistance programs, including the Pell Grant and Direct Loan programs. In addition, the program is approved for Montgomery GI Bill benefits for eligible enrolled veterans.
