The Pastoral Care Department at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital believes complete care includes attention to the spiritual, as well as the physical and emotional needs, of each patient and visitor.

Led by Pastoral Care coordinator Gary Workman, the single goal of pastoral care is to support people attempting to cope with life-altering healthcare events and needs. Our pastoral/lay pastor volunteers are available for the primary purpose of administering to the needs of patients, their families, and the hospital staff.

Our pastoral/lay pastor volunteers foster spiritual wholeness and are here to provide one-on-one conversation or listen to you and your loved ones with compassion and understanding. They make no assumptions about your personal convictions. They help sort through feelings and concerns that surface during a hospital stay and address fears, disappointing diagnoses, decisions, stress, and unresolved feelings.

Our Pastoral Care volunteers are available to serve you through:

  • Discussing concerns about procedures or decisions
  • Discussing with you the meaning and effects of advance directives
  • Encouragement and comfort
  • Offering communion, baptism, and anointing of the sick
  • Reading scripture or other important texts with you
  • Visiting and prayer

Whatever you are feeling, we can be present to listen to concerns. Pastors/lay pastors support patients, families, loved ones, and staff through emotional and spiritual journeys with complete confidentiality.
