Outpatient therapy services are available close to home. Whether you need physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or all three services, we are here to help.
WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital offers multiple outpatient therapy options to meet the specific needs of our patients. Through thorough evaluations and assessments, our therapists develop individualized care plans focusing on meeting the unique goals of each patient.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy (OT) is designed to improve or restore an individual’s function following the diagnosis of a life-altering disease, injury, developmental delay, surgical intervention, or loss of a body part. Through detailed assessments, our occupational therapists develop patient-specific services to assess and detect limitations, prevent the condition from worsening, decrease pain levels using conservative interventions, and improve functional strength and activity tolerance.
Our occupational therapists focus on task-centered activities to maximize functional independence and meet patient-specific goals. These methods commonly include exercise, manual therapy techniques, neuromuscular re-education, use of modalities, therapeutic activities, and/or patient/caregiver education and training.
Occupational therapists treat people of all ages in an outpatient setting. We offer full-service occupational therapy for:
- Elbow/wrist/hand injuries (carpal tunnel, hand/wrist/thumb tendonitis)
- Fine motor coordination (handwriting, grip)
- General strength and return-to-work needs
- Lymphedema
- Neurologic disorders (stroke, Parkinson’s disease)
Physical Therapy
Our physical therapy services are designed to address and restore physical function following disease, injury, or loss of a body part. Physical therapy is directed toward assessing, detecting, preventing, correcting, alleviating, and limiting physical disabilities, movement dysfunction, bodily malfunction, and pain from injury, disease, and other conditions.
Our physical therapy evaluations consist of a thorough clinical history, systems review, physical examination, and other assessments to help identify individualized impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. Our physical therapists then design and implement a plan of care that meets the specific needs of the patient.
The interventions most commonly used within a physical therapy practice include therapeutic exercise, therapeutic activities, manual therapy techniques, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, and patient/caregiver education and training.
Our outpatient physical therapy services are available for individuals of all ages. We offer full-service physical therapy for:
- Amputation/prosthetic training
- General balance and strength needs
- Lymphedema
- Neurologic disorders (stroke, Parkinson’s disease)
- Oncology care pre- and post-treatment
- Orthopedic and/or muscular injuries (back, neck, shoulders, knees, ankles, sprains,
strains) - Vertigo
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy utilizes rehabilitative services designed to improve or restore physical or cognitive function following disease, injury, surgery, malformation, developmental delays, and mental and emotional conditions.
This type of therapy focuses on assessing, detecting, preventing, correcting, alleviating, and improving swallowing function, speech, language, cognitive ability, or hearing function. Our speech-language pathologists use patient history, systems reviews, physical examinations, and a variety of evaluations to create patient-centered treatment plans to address impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities.
Speech therapists commonly employ barium swallow studies, instruction in compensatory strategies, swallowing exercises, diet modification, receptive and expressive language techniques, therapeutic activities, tracheostomy care and suctioning, and patient/caregiver education.
We offer full-service speech therapy for:
- Cognitive therapy
- Communication disorders (aphasia, apraxia) and voice disorders
- Neurologic disorders (Parkinson’s disease, stroke)
- Swallow therapy/modified barium swallow studies/Vital Stim
Speech therapy can also address speech-sound and language disorders in the pediatric population.
