An E-visit is a convenient way to treat certain conditions using your mobile phone or computer. A WVU Medicine E-visit is an online exchange of messages (without video) between a patient and a physician, including any images or documents you would like your provider to review. Who can use E-visits?

You must have a MyWVUChart account to schedule and complete an E-visit appointment.

How much does an E-visit cost?

E-visits cost $38. E-visit reimbursement varies depending on the payor, and while many insurance companies cover this service it is recommended that you contact your health plan to see if they cover or reimburse for WVU Medicine E-visits. If your insurance plan does not cover this service, you may be liable for full payment.

How do I request an E-visit?

Make your e-visit appointment

You MUST have a MyWVUChart account to schedule and complete an e-visit appointment and be physically located in the state of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Maryland at the time of your appointment.

To schedule an e-visit via MyChart mobile app (preferred):

1. Download and tap on the MyChart application on your smartphone.
2. Login with your MyWVUChart username and password.
3. Under the “Activities” section, select the e-visit icon.
4. Accept the e-visit terms and conditions.
5. Pick a reason for your visit and scroll down to the end of the page.
6. Answer the questions about the provider you would like to see and your preferred pharmacy.
7. Verify your personal information and then scroll down.
8. Verify your health issues, medications, and allergies. Tap NEXT.
9. Complete the entire questionnaire about the symptoms you’re experiencing, and tap SUBMIT when you’re done.
10. Add any documents or images you would like your provider to review. Then, tap NEXT.
11. Confirm your information and tap SUBMIT E-VISIT.

To schedule an e-visit via MyWVUChart.com on a computer:

1. Go to MyWVUChart.com, and login with your username and password.
2. Under “Quick Links” on the right side of the screen, click on “Schedule an e-visit.”
3. Accept the terms and conditions.
4. Complete all of the questions and click NEXT.
5. Verify your personal information, health issues, medications, and allergies. Click NEXT.
6. Answer the questions about the reason for your visit. For the question about your best method of contact, type MYCHART or your preferred phone number.
7. When you’ve completed the questions, click NEXT.
8. Review the summary of your answers, and click the pencil icon if you need to make any edits.
9. Click NEXT to continue.
10. Add any documents or images for your provider to review.
11. Click SUBMIT E-VISIT to finalize your appointment.

When are E-visits available?

If your primary care provider is a participating provider and you choose that option, an E-visit is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding holidays) with a six-hour turnaround time. If you opt to have the first available provider treat your condition, an E-visit is available seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

If a participating provider is out of the office or unavailable, messages sent via MyWVUChart may be routed to other authorized WVU Medicine caregivers in order to facilitate a timely response to your request. If you have medical questions/needs that cannot be addressed by an E-visit, you may reach a Nurse Navigator for nursing advice by calling 1-844-484-2360.

Who reviews my E-visit questionnaire and creates a treatment plan?

What happens if I can't receive treatment through an E-visit?

Depending on the way you respond to certain questions about your condition, you may be advised to seek in-person care. Additionally, if you complete and submit your E-visit but your provider deems your condition inappropriate for an E-visit, they’ll let you know via a MyWVUChart message. 

Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for my E-visit?

Each HSA has different rules on the different types of medical expenses that can be used for. Most of HSA accounts should be used to pay for E-visit. We recommend you check with your HSA administrator to confirm. 

Can I get a prescription through an E-visit?

Yes. Your provider can prescribe medications if you need them and send the online prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of your choice.

Do I need to use a camera or video?

You never need to use video for E-visits, but you can add a photo to help providers understand your condition. When requested, you may upload photos from your mobile device or your computer.

Are E-visits secure?

We take great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames, and passwords. You control your own password, and your account cannot be accessed without that password. Unlike conventional email, all MyWVUChart messaging is done while you are securely logged in.
