Our providers are highly trained to assist you with the entire spectrum of common medical issues that may affect you and your family members. At the University Town Centre in Morgantown and many other clinic locations, we provide you and your family with convenient care for every age of the lifespan.

Men’s Clinic

WVU Medicine Family Medicine provides convenient healthcare for men by men. Your family needs you to take care of your health, and our providers are specially trained in the unique needs of men, including any diseases or illnesses for which men are at high-risk. We can help keep you healthy and provide medical care that makes you feel more comfortable about going to the doctor.

An appointment with a WVU Medicine men’s health expert will take about 30 minutes, and your provider will ask questions about your medical history, including alcohol use, mental health, diet and exercise habits, sexual health, and any past surgeries. Depending on any medical conditions you’re experiencing, we can recommend a treatment plan that works for your work-life balance and provide you with excellent follow-up care. We can assist you with any referrals to a specialist, if needed.

COPD/Asthma

WVU Medicine Family Medicine offers dedicated care for patients who are affected by lung diseases, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma – known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). All in one outpatient visit, you’ll receive a consultation with a primary care physician, a pharmacist, a dietitian/smoking cessation counselor, and respiratory therapist.

Evaluation and Treatment

Some of our evaluation and treatment methods at the COPD/asthma clinic include:

  • Assessment of COPD symptoms
  • Breathing tests, including in-office spirometry
  • Medication review and counseling by a pharmacist
  • Nicotine dependence survey

Our primary care COPD/asthma team works effectively to care for all aspects of your lung condition, and we are here to help you breathe easier. If you require specialty care, we can provide you with a referral to a WVU Medicine pulmonary medicine physician.

Diabetes

WVU Medicine Family Medicine offers an intensive diabetes clinic for those who are newly diagnosed with the disease or having difficulty managing their condition. During one outpatient visit, you’ll receive a consultation with a medical team, including a primary care physician, a diabetic educator/dietitian, a case manager, a pharmacist, and a psychologist.

Our team approach will provide you with improved diabetic control, better coordination of your care between providers, and diabetes education. You can also receive a weekly or bi-weekly phone call from one of our pharmacists for insulin management. We can provide you with a referral to the WVU Medicine Diabetes Education Center, if needed.

Your primary care provider may refer you to the intensive diabetes clinic if:

  • You are newly diagnoses with diabetes
  • Your established diagnosis of diabetes has resulted in failure to achieve improvement in glycemic control despite medical intervention
  • You have a hemoglobin A1c of greater than or equal to nine percent.

Evaluation and Treatment

Some of our evaluation and treatment methods at the intensive diabetic clinic include:

  • Assessment of nutrition, weight, and physical activity
  • Counseling on new therapies, medications, or monitoring devices
  • Depression screening
  • Diabetic foot exam
  • Recommendations for optimal medication management
  • Retinal screening imaging using an IRIS retinal photography device
