Our mission is to improve lives by pioneering advances in brain health.
With the latest technologies, an ecosystem of partners, and an integrated approach, we are making tangible progress. Our breakthroughs in neuroscience are strengthening our efforts to combat public health challenges ranging from addiction to Alzheimer’s. Our collaboration with elite athletes and members of the military in optimizing human performance are leading to new innovations. We are proud to break barriers in research and patient care to better serve the people of West Virginia and beyond.
We are the premier multidisciplinary institute for patient care, research, and teaching in West Virginia and the region.
The RNI celebrated the opening of its new Innovation Center on May 15, 2019. The RNI’s flagship facilities are located on the Health Sciences campus in Morgantown, with more than 1,000 dedicated team members across five departments, patient care units, and research laboratories.
WHY WE’RE HERE
“We care deeply about our patients and families in West Virginia, across the country, and around the world; our boldest aspiration is to make their lives better, one person at a time.”

In 1999, U.S. Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller and his family established the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute at West Virginia University in honor of his mother, Blanchette Ferry Rockefeller, who died of Alzheimer’s disease in 1992. Senator Rockefeller and Mrs. Rockefeller have remained closely involved with the Institute since its founding, and expressed strong support for its expansion of mission and renaming in 2017.
“The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute is unlocking mysteries of maladies that can strike at the very heart of our humanity and affect us to our souls.”
