WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Heart Institute is proud to be one of the first in the nation to offer the Interstage Monitoring Program – free of charge – to our patients and their families, thanks to the Claire Gianni Foundation.

Preparing your child for surgery and waiting between procedures can be a stressful time for your family. If your child’s health is critical, you may feel a little uncertain.

ISMP helps ease some of those worries. This program is designed for parents of children with single ventricle heart defects or babies who are dependent on a shunt for any reason.

These types of heart conditions usually require a series of three surgeries to redirect blood flow.

ISMP monitors your child’s health while they are at home between their first and second surgery.

Our team will teach you how to record your baby’s information on daily feeding, weight, heart rate, and oxygen saturation in MyChart.

This will allow the WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Heart Center team to improve your child’s care. It can also reduce trips to the emergency room, lower your child’s risk of ICU admissions, and shorten the time of clinic visits.

ISMP also provides parents with close contact with their child’s care team via e-mail and MyChart. The Heart Center makes sure to provide ongoing support and encouragement as parents navigate this health journey.

Providers are here for all families and on call 27 hours a day, seven days a week.

Please do not hesitate to contact your ISMP care team with any questions or concerns.
