MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has announced that the WVU Medicine Children’s Pediatric and Adolescent Group Practice at University Town Centre has received NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Recognition for using evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long‐term, participative relationships.
The NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home program reflects the input of the American College of Physicians (ACP), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and others. It was developed to assess whether clinician practices are functioning as medical homes and recognize them for these efforts. These standards emphasize the use of systematic, patient-centered, coordinated care that supports access, communication, and patient involvement.
“This recognition demonstrates the hard work we have done to build a medical home for our pediatric patients,” Janani Narumanchi, M.D., WVU Medicine Children’s medical director of pediatric outpatient and outreach services and section chief of General Pediatrics and vice chair of pediatric outpatient and outreach services in the WVU School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, said. “Our clinic staff has done a tremendous job to meet the requirements of this certification, improving patient care and service.”
To earn recognition, which is valid for one year, the clinic demonstrated the ability to meet the program’s key elements, embodying characteristics of the medical home. NCQA standards aligned with the joint principles of the Patient-Centered Medical Home established with the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Osteopathic Association.
