WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary Awards Scholarships to Local Students Pursuing Healthcare Careers

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is proud to announce the recipients
of its 2026 healthcare scholarships. Each year, the Auxiliary awards two $1,000 scholarships to outstanding local
students who are pursuing careers in healthcare and demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and service
to their communities.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Reese Olivia Curry and Mallory Lynn Hughes, both graduates of
Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Reese Olivia Curry graduated fifth in her class and maintained Honor Roll status throughout all four years of high
school. She was also recognized on the President’s List at Pierpont Community & Technical College for achieving
a 4.0 grade point average in dual credit coursework. A dedicated student-athlete, Curry played varsity soccer for
four years and softball for two years. She also volunteered her time as a youth soccer coach, demonstrating a
commitment to serving others both on and off the field.

Curry has been accepted to West Virginia University, where she plans to pursue a career as a Psychiatric Nurse
Practitioner.

Mallory Lynn Hughes graduated sixth in her class of 237 students and was an Honor Roll student throughout her
high school career. Hughes excelled as a multi-sport athlete, earning honors in both swimming and soccer. In
addition to her academic and athletic achievements, she teaches swimming, first aid, and CPR, helping others
develop valuable life-saving skills.

Hughes has been accepted to West Virginia Wesleyan College and plans to pursue a career as a Nurse
Practitioner.

“The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is honored to support these exceptional students as they begin their journeys
into healthcare,” said Vonnie Hager, Auxiliary Scholarship Chairperson. “Both Reese and Mallory have
demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and dedication to serving others. We look forward
to seeing the positive impact they will make in the healthcare field and in the communities they serve.”

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary has a long tradition of supporting healthcare initiatives, patient services, and
educational opportunities throughout the community. Through its annual scholarship program, the Auxiliary
continues its commitment to encouraging the next generation of healthcare professionals.
