Potomac Valley Hospital honors nursing assistants with Sunshine Awards

Keyser, W.V. – WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital recently recognized two nursing assistants with the Sunshine Award in honor of their exceptional compassion, kindness, and dedication to patient care.

Certified nursing assistants Jessica Cook of the emergency department and Kiersten Miller of the medical surgical unit, were both recognized for their commitment to providing outstanding support to patients, families, and fellow team members.

Jessica Cook received multiple nominations highlighting her positive attitude, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to patient care.

One coworker shared that Jessica “has made me feel extremely welcome since my first day ever working with her. She is constantly on her feet and making sure everything gets done in a timely manner. She is constantly a huge support in teamwork and helps things run efficiently and smoothly.”

Another coworker noted that Jessica “goes above and beyond every shift. She is kind to all she meets. She is always willing to lend a helping hand. She takes her time to listen and form a rapport with the patients. She truly shines.”

Hospital management also praised Jessica as an exemplary employee who consistently demonstrates professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to excellence while serving as a positive role model for her team.

Kiersten Miller was recognized through nominations submitted by both patients and coworkers for the compassionate and meaningful care she provides each day.

One patient described Kiersten as “an outstanding CNA” and shared that “when she enters my room, she takes the time to connect and her kindness is huge.”

A coworker added that Kiersten “exemplifies the qualities this recognition celebrates — dedication, compassion, and an unwavering willingness to help anyone in need and with a smile on her face at all times.”

Management recognized Kiersten for consistently going above and beyond to ensure patients feel supported, respected, and cared for while also serving as a dependable and trusted team member within the medical surgical unit.
