Cardiac Surgery Services Expanded at Camden Clark Medical Center

Camden Clark Medical Center and the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute have expanded access to advanced open-heart surgery with the addition of Jonathan Afoke, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon. Dr. Afoke brings a strong focus on growing heart surgery services for patients across the Mid-Ohio Valley.   

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Afoke to the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute. His new leadership role of the open-heart program at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class cardiac surgical care across the communities we serve as we focus on keeping patients close to home whenever possible,” Vinay Badhwar, MD, executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, said.  

Raised in the United Kingdom, Dr. Afoke earned his medical degree from Imperial College School of Medicine in London before completing advanced cardiothoracic and fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic.  

“I’m excited to bring the world-class care of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute to patients in the Mid-Ohio Valley,” Afoke said. “I’ve made Parkersburg my home, and I look forward to caring for our patients while helping advance the future of cardiac surgery in this community.”

Dr. Afoke is now accepting patients and will work closely with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care before, during, and after surgery.” 

Drawn to the combination of world-class expertise and community-based care at WVU Medicine, his goals are to diagnose and treat coronary artery and valve disease early, to expand regional access to advanced surgical options, and to build long-term relationships with patients and families as he settles down in the region.
